Kellene Turner Art 31 in 31 2026 Collection
Works in this 31 in 31 series were driven by curiosity and purpose. This intentional wintry time was set aside last August with great care.
These pieces are paving a way for future series and experimental works. Each day was a new challenge. Each day built new systems, habits, and disciplines. Each day I learned something new about myself.
I look forward to this practice every year. Read more about each day in my blog.

“Animal Skull Study”Posca on Bristol Vellum Paper
I have really been looking back into color and why I gravitate towards certain color palettes. This piece intentionally limited me to use a monochromatic style palette and minimal black.
Forcing myself to see sections instead of details, I mapped out this skull study in quick pen and layered on highlights, mid-tones, and then shadows.
Poscas create a different kind of acrylic mark, and it was hard to get use to.

“Snake Skin Study” Watercolor on Bristol Vellum Paper
Digging back into my curiosity cabinet I used a snake skin for this study. Intentionally taking a detailed look with layers, marks, and colors, this piece shaped up with twists and folds in the snake shed.
Again back to color study and the relationship the colors had within the shed as well as with the light source caught my attention.
